In order to successfully switch SIM cards and use your existing cell phone with another GSM network, your cell phone must be unlocked. Most cell phone suppliers will unlock your phone if your request it at time of purchase. If you already own your phone, you can call the cell phone supplier, and ask them for the SIM unlock code, and often, they will provide you with this information. However, for a fee (usually nominal), most cell phone providers and local shops can provide this service for you at any time. Alternately, there are many websites that offer this service for a fee ranging from $5.00 and upwards.
A simple way to know if your phone is unlocked,
is to switch your SIM card with a SIM card of a different service provider. If the phone works, it is unlocked.
An unlocked cell phone that does not use the frequency bandwidth 900/1800 MgH, will not work in Israel, as an unlocked cell phone that is not able to function at bandwidth 1900 MgH will not work in the United States.
If your phone supports QUADBAND
frequency bandwidths, it should be able to work on any other
GSM network, assuming that you have unlocked your phone.
